Fit your horse

BELL BOOTS

How to Check the Fit of Horse Boots:
Remember the above chart is a guideline only. You should always check the fit of your horse's boots before riding. You should be able to slide one finger between the protective boot and the horse's leg. Your finger should feel snug between the two surfaces. If the boot is too big or too loose, dirt can get inside and cause abrasions, or slide downward where it may disrupt the horse's movement. If the boot is too tight, it can cause pressure on the horse's tendon. The length of a boot on your horse's leg should be checked as well. You don't want the boot to be so long that it rises to the back of a horse's knee and interferes with normal movement. It should, however, be long enough to cover most of the cannon bone area as well as the inside of the fetlock.

Tips:

  • When fastening horse boots, be sure to use even pressure on each strap as you work your way down the leg. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully for your type of boots, and be careful not to over-tighten them.
  • Remove boots from your horse's legs as soon as possible after your workout to allow any accumulated heat to escape and to allow the skin and hair to dry.
  • Keep the boots clean and free of accumulated dirt, grime and sweat which can be irritating to a horse's sensitive skin.

HARD SHELL BOOTS

SIZE: HORSE (FULL) SIZE

Vented Infinity and Boyd Martin TPU Tendon Boot: has a height of 8 ¼"(21cm) at the spine (back of the boot). This number does not include the soft liner which extends another ¾" (2cm) at the bottom and ½"(1.7cm) at the top. This is the crucial height to measure when fitting your horse. The length of the back of the boot should not interfere with the movement of your horse. The tendon boot has a depth of 3¾"(9.5cm) at the bottom and 2 ½"(6.5cm) at the top. This is a very generous depth but will fit most horses due to our shape forming 7mm thick foam liner. The boot should fit most horses with canon bone circumference of 11"(28cm) to 12"(30.5cm).

Vented Infinity and Boyd Martin TPU Jump Boot: (open front): has a height of 5"(12.75cm) at the spine (back of the boot). Note* Our Vented Infinity Series with Velcro closures have been designed to fit a wide array of horses. This is especially good for riders who have multiple horses that may share boots.  If You look at the Velcro you will see that there are several stitch guidelines across the body of the Velcro. These are designed so that, if your horse is smaller and you prefer, you can cut any additional Velcro behind the stitch line for a more streamlined look.
